San Jose, Costa Rica-Based Club Hosts Carmelita at Stadium Jorge ‘Cuty’ Monge at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 14

November 12, 2021 – San Jose, CR – ADC Barrio Mexico is embarking upon a new era for the club, starting this weekend.

ADC Barrio Mexico plays AD Carmelita at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, November 14 at Estadio Jorge ‘Cuty’ Monge (VXQ2+V74, San Jose Province, CR) in a Liga Motorola Apertura Quarterfinal playoff match.

Barrio Mexico enters the Liga Motorola promotion playoffs as the No. 3 team in Group A. The winner of the two-leg playoff series advances to the semifinals.

Club President Omar Rivera said, “We’re going to work our tails off and win this thing. The team is in very good form right now. The practices have been very intense and focused, and we’re ready to take on this challenge. This is just the start for us.”

Barrio Mexico (7-6-3 W-D-L) drew 2-2 in the regular season finale against Cariari Pococi on Sunday, Nov. 7, resting many of its starters for the upcoming playoffs. The club is unbeaten over its last six matches.

Gilberto ‘El Tuma’ Martinez is Head Coach of Barrio Mexico. Martinez made 61 appearances with the Costa Rica National Team from 2001-11 during a professional career that included 68 appearances for Saprissa from 1999-’02 and stops with Bresia and Roma in Italy’s Serie A.

Carlos ‘El Zorro’ Hernandez serves as Assistant Coach. Hernandez made 40 appearance with Costa Rica from 2004-’14 during a pro career that included seven years in Australia’s A-League from ’07-’14

Deybis Jimenez and Verny Scott lead Barrio Mexico with four goals each. Jonathan Hansen has three goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Brian Morales leads a defense that has allowed just 13 goals through 16 matches.

Barrio Mexico now has qualified for the Liga Motorola playoffs for the second consecutive season.

ADC Barrio Mexico

ADC Barrio Mexico is a Costa Rican professional football club based in San Jose, CR. Founded in 1948, the club is looking to return to Liga de Futbol de Primera Division (Liga FPD) for the first time since 2014.

Barrio Mexico is a charter member of Liga Movistar and competes in the Liga de Ascenso Segunda Division. The club also manages a full youth development program.

In addition, Barrio Mexico can participate in the qualifying rounds for the CONCACAF Champions League through its affiliation and membership with Liga Motorola, the Costa Rican Football Federation (FEDEFUT) and CONCACAF.
